I have been building guitars since 1986, when I took a class with Ervin Somogyi. Later, as an apprentice to TJ Thompson, I helped him build exacting replicas of 1929-1931 Martin OMs and was the sole employee of Schoenberg Guitars, then a partnership between TJ and Eric Schoenberg. I'm now the production manager at Somogyi guitars, where we make about 15-20 custom steel string guitars per year.
My own shop has been open since 1995, focusing on high end repair and restoration and select custom guitar building projects. As with my Irish bouzoukis, I focus on classic building techniques: the highest quality wood, seasoned for over a decade, hide glued, light-tight joints, stiff and light construction throughout, and superior set-ups for buttery playability. The combination leads to a complex, richly melifluous instrument with excellent intonation.
